FALL HAS ARRIVED..... 9-7-2013 to 9-29-2013

Fall has arrived, but the leaves aren't turning too fast..  We had been home for awhile enjoying the peace and tranquility..  Dan had alot of work ahead of him, doing the modifications on our new Heartland. Along with keeping up with the yard.  We had some nice weather.

There was garden club that I was involved with.  We had a workshop at Eileen's.  We made concrete castings from leaves of some sort.  Mainly Zucchini and hosta leaves.  We made those last year and some did not turn out, and we knew what we did wrong, so we attempted it again this year..

Eileen's husband was the master concrete maker

We had to wait a week for the concrete to cure and we had a better turn out of good ones this year.
Now they get painted and sealed and next year they can be put in our gardens as art, bird bath, whatever we choose.  It was fun.

We had come more gravel delivered as we needed to spread some where the low spots popped up. It was about 10 years ago when we had spread gravel around the barns and after the years it sunk in some places.  It is sure nice having gravel and not mud and dirt.

My friends and I had gone to Houghton, MI for a afternoon Tea at the 4 seasons Tea House.  My friend from L'Anse was having a tea with her Red Hat group and Pat, Eileen, Darlene and myself were invited.
It was a 300 mile round trip for an afternoon tea.  We had a great time, you don't find many afternoon tea rooms around.

I had a great taste for pasties, a meat pie wrapped in dough.  I asked my friend Pat if she would come and show me how she makes her's..  We had a good time. By the time she arrived I had 10 lbs of potatoes, 1 lb of carrots and 3 large onions all peeled and waiting.  We chopped up everything into nice pieces.  I seasoned 8 lbs of ground chuck, and then we mixed it all together with the vegetables.
Pat made the dough and I watched very closely.  We ended up having 9 large pasties..  They were so yummy.  I had Ron and Eileen over for dinner also.. What a feast.

Our last camping
trip with Ron and Eileen before we head for Texas.  We have an annual week camping trip to Sault Ste. Marie, MI at Soo Locks Campground..Reservations are hard to get, but we had been lucky again this year  We park right on the shores of the St. Mary's River and the ships just sneak right by.

We have been home a week, and the trees are starting to turn..  On Monday the 23rd, we went to Marquette to Gander Mountain and Dan bought a electric smoker to take with us to Texas.  He plans on doing some serious smoking there..

It is small enough to fit inn the box in the bed of the pickup.  We smoked some pork steaks  and I don't think that I would do them on the grill again..
Today (Sunday 29th) we are having friends over for dinner and Dan is smoking a pork loin on the new smoker.

Dan spent the week, putting finishing touches on the Key Largo.  He installed some mud flats on it, washed and waxed it, stained the steps he made and is making a bracket to hold the Direct TV dish.

Some of our friends are heading south already..

I have another dinner party to make yet and 2 events with the girlfriends and then we can join friends in Texas..
