Dec. 19th - Dec 25th 2011 ~~~ Southern Oaks Weekly Recap ~~~

Dec 19th   Monday
Well another week is off and running. It is 70 degrees this morning with spurts of rain. Dan went for coffee with the boys and I decided that it has to be laundry day today.  Yuck, I hate Laundromats. I have the hook-ups in the trailer for a washer and dryer, but I chose to use the space as a coat closet and storage.
We went for lunch at a Mexican Taqueria in Ingleside.  We had the lunch buffet and I really enjoyed it and for 4.99.. can't beat the price.  My biggest complaint with the restaurants is that they are charging alot if money for the soft drink and coffee, and the price of the meals keep going up.  You go to places like Chili's or Applebees and they are so proud to list the prices of the meals and when it comes to the drinks, they must be embarrassed as they don't list the prices of soft drinks and coffee. You look around and you see alot of large glasses of water...  I wonder when they will be charging for water now.

Dec 20th   Tuesday
66 degrees at 7 AM, no wind..
Spurts of rain...... Stay home day.... We are invited to our friends Susan and Arnold for dessert and coffee. Our good friends from Wisconsin arrived and and they were also invited.  Nice to see them again and getting caught up with their travels down here.

Dec 21st   Wednesday
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY  27 YEARS
51egrees at 7:30 AM..
Heavy rain around 10 AM...   We received calls wishing us Happy Anniversary..  Went to the Clubhouse for Birthday cake for Heather the Manager of the Resort... She was surprised.  Dan and I and our GOOD FRIENDS from Ransom Road went out for dinner to The Texas Roadhouse in Corpus Christi..

We all had such a great meal and then we went to look at the Christmas Decorations on Candy Cane Lane, and the way home we went down Ocean Drive and seen the huge tree in front of the American Bank Building.. We also were able to see the colors change on the Bay Bridge.

It was a very nice evening and Anniversary.

Dec 22nd   Thursday

58 degrees and cloudy..  Our CO2 detector went off and Herbie got very scared.  (The batteries were low). He had been acting very strange for the rest of the day.  I took hm outside and he started shaking and did not want to go back in.  When we got him back in he went to the bedroom and hide along side the bed by the closet.

Pizza Hit night..... Went for pizza and our friends were there from Ransom Road so we joined in with them.. Had a good time as always..

Dec 23rd    Friday
41 degrees at 7 AM it was cold and the North wind was blowing...  Didn't do too much today, went to HEB and got my groceries for the weekend..  Made some Baked Shrimp and Rice for dinner...
Dec 24th    Saturday

51 degrees at 7:30 AM windy and rain... Went out for Breakfast at The Bakery with our North Dakota Friends, Gene and LaVerne.  Got my dinner prepared for the evening. We had our friends from Wisconsin here for dinner with us.  I baked a ham, sweet potatoes, Cranberry Relish (Dan made) Fresh frozen corn, and Strawberry Pie (which Shirley made)  Dan made some Cranberry Salsa which we had with crackers for an appetizer.. I was very good dinner and having Jerry and Shirley with us made it even more special.
Herbie spends most of his time either up on the bed or behind the chairs or under the kitchen table, but not on the couch like he use to.

Dec 25th   Sunday
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Sassy and Sierra

Herbie was not very co-operative..

48 degrees at 7 AM... Cold and Rainy..  Dan made us breakfast, then he made his bacon wrapped baby wiener wraps for the party today at the club house.

I think I figured out the problem with Herbie..  We changed our furniture around and we had the vertical blinds opened and he could not look out  like he always did.  We might have to change the furniture back, but we will not change the blinds.

We went to the Clubhouse and there was such great and different Finger Foods and we played Dirty Santa exchange gift and visited with our winter friends.

Soon 2011 will be over and a brand new year will arrive with
new challenges,
new ideas
new friends...

Then we went on to Corpus Christi and went to the World Market.  I was never in that place and oh my we spent over an hour in there looking at everything.. Gift and foods from around the world and reasonably priced.  Then we went to Flour Bluff to a HEB Super Store.. HEB is a grocery store in Texas and they have a few super stores also that has alot of extras that most grocery stores don't have.  Speciality items, food and wines.  Then we left there and went to our friends Ron and Rose who live in Corpus and I picked up some Avon that I had ordered.  Then we headed home and decided that we better eat out, So we went to The China Garden and had their delicious buffet.. It was so yummy... I was very proud, I only had one plate full.
Came home and then joined in for Happy Hour with friends...  A FULL DAY FOR SURE...

Dec  13th   Tuesday

64 degrees at 6 AM...  Lounged around in the morning and then was ready to go to lunch with friends Sue and Linda.  We went into Corpus and checked out a few places to have Ladies Luncheons at. One was at the Art Center with a restaurant over looking Corpus Christi Bay and the USS Lexington. Then went to another place call Hesters and The Bleu Frog Mercantile.  Had a wonderful sandwich and then I took a big piece of Key lime pie home for Dan and I to share.  The Mercantile had just room after room of gifts and decorations..  I did end up buying a few things.
When I got home I was tired.  Took Herbie out for a walk and then I crashed.

Dec  14th   Weds

70 degrees  and windy.... Went to The Bakery Cafe for breakfast..  That is one place that we like to go to for Breakfast, reasonably priced, good food and alot of it, and lots of coffee refills....
When we got back Dan started on removing all the old window treatments in the living room and kitch area.. Mr. Herbie was getting confused when the furniture started getting moved around..  It took Dan most of the afternoon to do the job and he did a great job.. We moved the sofa where the chairs were and the chairs where the sofa was.  I like that alot better as I can see the TV alot easier.. When we leave in spring we have to return the furniture as the slides will not close.

Dec 15th   Thurs
70 degrees this AM..  Dan went for coffee with the guys.  I checked my emails as I usually do when I get up... Today, we were able to register for The Heartland International Rally in Gillette, Wyoming..

Nov 28 - Dec 4 2011 ~~~Southern Oaks Weekly Recap~~~

Well another week is gone and I have been looking everywhere for it.  Lets re-cap and maybe I will find it..!!

Nov. 28th  Monday

36 degrees this morning at 7AM .. Dan fixed bacon and eggs this morning which was a really nice treat.  Went to the post office and then to HEB for some groceries.  When we go back Dan watered the grass some and we went to Happy hour.  Not too much happening today,.  I sure enjoy the cool weather though.
It turned out to be a nice evening and lots of stars out.

Nov. 29th Tuesday
55 degrees this morning at 7 AM and it was sunny. Our neighbors Chuck and Jackie and Dan and I went to Port A for lunch and to get some bakery. Oh I had such a taste for German Stollen...
3 of us had Reuben sandwiches and Dan ordered 2 brats and broasted potatoes.  Drinks were $2.00 a piece, so a glass of ice water did us just fine. We were disappointed with our lunch.  I had a piece of apple strudel that I shared with Dan and and the dough was tough.  The Stollen was 16.00 and Jackie had bought a small piece that we all tried and it was blah... each piece of danish was $1.50. So all I bought was a cinnamon roll to take home and oh my it was blah!! I did like to homemade tomato soup that came with the sandwich though.

Got a message that our friend from Illinois, who is in the Valley for the winter, had told us that another friend  had passed away Monday.  What a shock that was.

Nov 30th  Wednesday
48 degrees at 6:30 AM  ..............Not much went on today.  Went to Corpus Christi to pick up some Avon I had ordered..  Stopped in Portland to see if our mail was in and then went to McDonald's for a McRib and then home... I like those days when there isn't much going on...   Happy Hour.. Dinner and Relaxing in the recliner...How much better can it get?

Dec 1st  Thursday
60 degrees this morning at 7:00 AM..  It was warm out.  Not much doing during the day, we went to Portland to pick up our mail and at 4PM we met our HOC Friends for dinner.  My KINDLE FIRE was in the mail..  A good time at The Boiling Pot, in Fulton,  Oh my, Cajun Food,  Very limited menu and everything was boiled and put on a white paper.  N o fine dining in this place... it was a hoot and here are some pictures to verify it.

Dec. 2nd   Friday
67 degrees this morning at 6:30 AM..
It rained most of the night and off and on all day.  Dan fixed breakfast again...  Oh what a guy...

Our friends Arnold and Susan have a 23rd Anniversary today and we had them over for dessert.  I thawed out some frozen strawberries from home and we each had a nice bowl of shortcake.  Yummy.... Arnold showed me some things on my new Kindle Fire...  It is sure a shame, no one sends a instruction manual with their items anymore.  Everything is online.,...

Dec. 3rd Saturday
70 degrees at 6:30 AM
We had light rain early this morning. then the sun came out and it turned out to be a nice day.
This morning we picked up Susan and we went to the Palms RV for a craft sale. I bought a homemade jacket. Last year I bought a necklace set and then a few months later at another sale, I bought another one.  When I got home I realized that it was the same one.  I did not have her phone number, so this year I brought it along and she was more than happy to exchange it for me.  Then we were on the way to Rockport/Fulton  open air market and we seen all kinds of kites flying down by the marina and we stopped and watched them.  Oh so many different colors, sizes and shapes..

Off to the Open Air Market, and I bought some homemade orange marmalade, and a dozen of homemade tamales.  We called Arnold and he met us at Alice Fayes for lunch..  Dan, Susan and myself had such a good fish sandwich with sweet potato fries, Arnold had a salad..

Happy hour at 4 PM and then at 6:30 we went down to Conn Harbor to watch the Boats on parade all decorated up.  They went up the inter-coastal to some of the other bays.

It was a long day and we came home and relaxed...
Dec 4th  Sunday.
Got up early again and the temp was ???  forgot to write it down.  Dan and I went to The Bakery Cafe for breakfast. Then went to HEB and bought a few things and then Dan went to customer service to buy 2 rolls of quarters.  They wanted to charge him .20 a roll service fee.. WHAT HE SAID. He said no thank you, So we went to Wal-Mart and got our change for the laundry..  This society is charging for everything.  Soon I see them charging to use the public bathrooms.   Any way I went and did the laundry and Dan was messing around back at the trailer, talking with everyone.

I watched a few shows of NCIS and then it was time for Happy Hour.  Around 4:45 PM a cold front came just that fast.  Everyone headed back to their units. Around 6:30 PM we headed to Corpus Christi to see the lighting of the bridge and they had a color light show. Our neighbor Jackie went along.  the bridge did have lights a few years back, and they updated the lights and added a few more light shows.  It is really amazing what today's technology can do..

There were many other colors and design..  Just beautiful.....

So Long for another week....

I went for a walk with Susan this morning, didn't do the 1 1/2 miles as my back was really hurting today..  Dan and I went to the Bakery for breakfast, which was good and the price is right.  Then we took a ride over to Ransom Road RV to see our friends Joe and Elaine and their new addition.. Dee-O-Gee.. The cutest ever black and white 9 week old Shih-shu.. Oh just so so sweet.  Made me melt just holding him and my mind started that I need to get another companion for Mr. Herbie.. Then the thought of training one again and going thru the terrible two's..I sort of changed my mind.   Dan and I then went to Portland to Bealls as we had some good coupons and we got some really good sales.  82 degree's at 3:40 PM and windy

Nov. 24th   Thursday    HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Fog in the morning.. it seemed strange to see that, after all that sun that we had.
We had our morning coffee and I peeled the potates for the cheesy potatoes that I was bringing to dinner.  We watched the parade and I went through the paper with all the Black Friday ads. It is just crazy how these people are when the stores open so early.
We had dinner at 2 PM and there were about 83 people and lots of food.. Baked turkey, Smoked Turkey, 2 big spiral hams and prime rib, with alot of side dishes...and of course delicious desserts.
Heather, Park Manger serving the meat.

Just hung around home for the rest of the day.  We were still full from Thanksgiving dinner so I made a light dinner for us.

Nov. 26th   Saturday
It was over cast this morning..
When I woke up this morning my left ankle was so sore and swollen. It hurt to put pressure on it.  I hobbled down to my chair and waited for Dan to come and make coffee and wait on me...  I had my foot up for a few hours along with 2 Aleeve, and then the pain seemed to subsided. I got dressed, Herbie wanted to go for a ride, so I  hobbled to the truck and we went and got our mail in Portland, then we stopped and seen our friends Gene and Linda and Kolby.  Kolby was happy to see Herbie.   The wind was starting to pick up...
Ron and Joe came over to work with Dan on trying to figure out the wiring that Direct TV did when they installed our DTV dish.  After a few hours it was Happy hour and they will return tomorow.  In the meantime we had a spagehetti bowl of wires hanging ..LOL
We went to Pizza Hut for dinner as it was close and the wind was picking up..  By the time that we were going to bed, the wind was so strong the trailer was rocking.   Good  Night ~~~~
Nov. 27th   Sunday
50 Degrees at 7 AM    Lost our windsock from the wind last night, Dan was out watering the grass, Jackie our neighbor came over with her I-Pad and showed me the site on the new German Bakery in Port Aransas.  I had ordered  KINDLE FIRE and can not wait to get it.  Dan was outside testing connections for atennas and satalittes, then Ron and Joe came back and the 3 of them were cabitzing over the wiring situation..  The wind was really bad again.    We went to China A for dinner and we decided that it isn't as good as it use to be...  Well that means we won't be going back there..

Another week is here and it will be interesting to see how this week turns out.   It was warm when I got up. Dan wants to go to Corpus today and buy a new printer. The one that we had didn't want to print.  .. What an ordeal looking for a printer that took the same number ink that we spent a fortune one in ink..
While we were out we ate at the Golden Corral and then stopped at Bealls to use some 30% coupons that we had.  Got back home to see that park was hydro seeding some areas..  I made some flower pins and Dan went to Happy Hour.  Made a sandwich and got ready to watch THE PACKER game... YEH PACK!!!!! 15 - 0

Made some more flower pins.  Dan and I went to What-a burger for lunch.  The awnings that Dan ordered for 2 of our outside windows arrived and he stopped and  picked them up at the office. Went to happy hour and back to the trailer, made dinner and then after it was dark and the sun went down Dan and I sat outside to enjoy the evening.  the sun and the heat is just too much for me to live here all the time.. I really like my cooler weather in Northern Michigan.

59 degrees @ 6am in the morning. What a cool morning it was.   Now that is alot better than 74 degrees.  Dan volunteered to help make picnic tables today.  They were going to make 24 of them and they had an assembly line set up.  2 were cutting the wood, and the rest  of them all worked in different stages and they got them all made.,

The rest of them are inside the building as they are using them until the Community building is done.

Nov  17th Thurs
58 degrees this morning.. Nice and cool, I decided to take a walk today, and my friend Susan is walking with me.. I walked a mile and half..  which I have not done that distance for some time. Dan helped assemble the last 4 tables and then he went to Corpus with the boys.  Harbor Freight ,Pet Smart and then the B-B-Q man for lunch... he had a great day with the boys. I made a Rhubarb Torte and then got ready to go out for PIZZA HUT.. We met HOC (Heartland Owners Club) friends there. one couple we just met last Sat and the other couple we seen on the forum and they drove from George West to join us.  Another couple who own a SOB (some other brand) came in and we had them join us. We had lot of laughs and decided to do this again Dec. 1st.   Hopefully some more HOC will be here and they can join us.  We are going to meet at the BOILING POT in Rockport.

Nov 18th  Friday
55 degrees and sunny at 7AM.. It was a nice cool morning and I decided that I was going to walk with Susan this morning   I did not do the mile today, maybe a half of mile..
Dan decided that he was going to install the vertical blinds in the back window today.. Oh how I did not like those day night shades..they were hard to pull down and when you put them up the bottom rod bowed and looked like you know what???  Susan came to my rescue and asked me to go shopping with her... So off to Rockport we went and look through some of those cute little shops. I bought a few little things and tried on another pair of yellow box sandals,... I bought one pair already and put them away for my cruise and sure want another pair.  When I got back, everything was done and cleaned up.

GREAT JOB DAN
Went to happy hour and then grilled out and settled in for the night...

Nov 19th  Sat
Another nice morning with warm breeze coming in the windows. There was coffee and doughnuts in the community room at 9 am. We met some more people and the owners in the gated area. We laughed and enjoyed the morning.. Late afternoon it got warmer and humid so I closed the windows and turned on the air.. Dan installed one of the window awnings and that took most of the afternoon.. boy does that make a difference. That sure makes a difference when that sun is beating in on the window. He will install the other window tomorrow.

I watched the last race of the NASCAR NATIONWIDE it was a good race. Dan went to Happy Hour and we made steaks and then went to the Community Building for a dance. Gary Propuck was the DJ and did a wonderful job. We made it an early night.
Nov 20th  Sun

59 degrees and breezy.  Dan made breakfast this morning and then later I went and washed clothes.. It was a lazy day . NASCAR

Temp was 77 degrees at 9 PM.
Dan and I went to Chili's for dinner and when  we got back the race was still on and had 25 laps left. Tony Stewart won the race and the championship. Tony and Carl Edwards sure showed what good sportsmanship is all about.  It was a long day and a close of a long week.
