May 28th - June 3rd 2012 ~~ Countdown to Gillette, WY

I am just wondering where the warm weather went. As we are counting down to our trip to Gillette, WY.  It is getting colder.

May 28th   -  Monday     Memorial Day
Today was cold and rainy in the morning..  I usually go to the Memorial Day services in Munising, but I decided to stay home this year as I am getting over the CRUD, and I didn't want it to come back...  I called ha Molly come and stay for the day and play with Herbie.. The services start at 10 am with the raising of the flag at the Memorial and then the Blessing of The Fleet and then up to the cemetery at the Veterans for the service and the veterans go to 2 other cemeteries for services there. While the veterans go I go over to the American Legion and visit with some ladies and wait for the Vets to return and then there is a luncheon put on for the community if they want to attend.
Herbie and Molly had a great time together, fighting over who was going to sit on my lap or Dan's lap...then what chew each other had..
I was cooking as Ron and Eileen were coming over for dinner and we were making chicken on a BBQ - charcoal, and that was so so good.

Looking back years ago, families made a big deal of family get togethers for holidays. Picnic, back yard BBQ.. What happened to The Good Ole Days !!

May 29th   -  Tuesday
Up early this morning and made a dessert for lunch.  Today got a visit from Carrie, Dan's secretary when he was working.  It was so nice to see her and her shadow, Maggie.  She has had a rough time in the past 2 years with medical issues,  and with her strong will to live she is still with us.  She brought lunch, which was delicious and she made a homemade strawberry pie.  Oh my gosh, it was so good.  She left back to Green Bay, Wisc around 5PM.  We made a sandwich for supper and a piece of the Rhubarb cobbler I made for dessert..  We both went and settled in our recliners for the evening.

May 30th   -  Wednesday  ~  Lunch With Friends
Up early this morning and made out a list of things that I wanted to pick up when I went to Escanaba to have lunch with Eileen and Mary. It was Mary's birthday so we treated her to lunch.. I was driving into the city limits of Escanaba and we noticed that there were alot of Michigan State Police parked in the medians. As I passed them, I noticed that one pulled out and  and came racing behind me and all of a sudden the light came on... huh!!I knew that I was not speeding.  I pulled over and he came up to the car and I looked up at him and said I can not believe that you stopped me, I was driving under the speed limit. He said you really don't know, I said no officer.  You were not wearing your seat belt.  I said yes I was officer, see, he said when you passed me you were not wearing one, I said yes I was, but I showed him that I had the belt under my arm.  He said that is illegal.. OMG, He wanted to see my insurance, registration and driver license.   I asked him if I could unhook my belt so I could bend to get to the glove box... He said yes.. Well, about 10 minutes later here he comes with this white paper in his hand along with the rest of my documents. He explained everything to me and where I have to go to pay the fine.  I thanked him and said, there goes my cowboy boots I wanted to get in WY... We continued on with our stops at the stores and then to lunch at The Stone House..   We all decided to have this wonderful dish of Shrimp Vegetable Stir Fry... Oh my so so good. Stopped for gas in car, paid $3.46 a gallon.. Came home and broke the news to Dan, and he was not feeling good as it was, and then what I hit him with, did not make him happy.  He said, well there goes your cowboy boots..    I made him something to eat, and then I put my hanging baskets and plants that I have not planted yet in the garage.  We headed for our recliners.  What a day!!

May  31st   -  Thursday   ~
I was awake at 5AM his morning and turned on the morning news... We have to go to Marquette this afternoon It is going to be a long day. We decided to eat at Applebee's so I didn't have to cook when we got home..  Stopped at Ron and Eileen's before we went home and had a nice hot and good cup of coffee.. I can not believe the cup of a coffee in the restaurants, and then a soft drink... A glass of ice water is our beverage of choice and I was looking around and it seems as that is what the majority was drinking...  My thought is when they can't/won't put the price of drinks on the menu, means that they are embarrassed to do so.. They know that they are over priced..  Now that I said my piece, I am going to do a few other things.
Threat of frost tonight, so before we settled in for the night we had brought all hanging pot and plants that I have not planted yet  and put in the barn..  Took Herbie out for last call about 9:30 PM and the sky was clear and the moon was about 3/4 and bright.
It is time for me to snuggle under the warm blankets...

June  1st   -  Friday   ~
31 degrees this morning when we got up and there was frost last night...  I got up early and went to Marquette this morning for some blood tests and it had to be a fasting..  It is 42 miles one way to Marquette..  I had errands that I had to do and then I wanted to go and window shop in some of the stores.. Something that I don't usually get to do when I come into town.  Usually I am on a mission and don't have time to window shop...  Marquette is a fairly large city and they have old town, and then further west is the main shopping area, Wal-mart, Target, Kohl's..  In old town Marquette is mom and pop shops. Marquette is a college town also and there is a beautiful lake front.
While I was gone Dan got a call that his glasses were in and he went to ton then and while he was there he got his hair cut. Came home washed the 5th wheel again, and did buff out some spot where it needed it. I think he just wanted something to do honestly.
It is a cold day here, 50's and being by the lake it is colder.. I never thought I would be complaining about the cold..
Got home around 5 pm.. and we had a very simple supper... Hot dogs and potato salad.

June 2nd   -  Saturday   ~
43 degrees this morning and cold again. I wonder when it will be a bit warmer..  Wish the sun would come out and make Dan happier, raining again.  I sure would like to go out and finish up some garden stuff,  I bought 6 more bags of mulch to put down... Well it rained all day, harder off and on. It made day dreary.  Watched TV most of the day.. Cooking shows - Comedies, Nascar race, and action movies. Did some napping in between. Made a nice pork roast for dinner with trimmings..Went to bed around 10 PM and it was still raining..

June 3rd   -  Sunday    ~
I got up early this morning,  5:30 am and decided to stay up. Herbie wanted to go out, and of course that means he gets his morning treat.  Made a cup of tea and snuggled in my chair and turned on CNN.  I kept looking outside watching daylight arise.  Looking around our yard and seeing how the leaves have popped out so full and how green and full the forest floor is. The sun came out and the skies are blue..  Yipp-ee-ee.
Ron and Eileen came down for coffee and brought me a paper.  Yesterday was the Green Bay Garden walk, some of my friends went to it this year. I chose not to go as I we will be leaving soon on our trip and the money I would   spend there, I want to spend in WY.  So I heard what a good time she had.
The sun was shining and it was an indication that I could finish my front garden.

All weeded and mulched and I added some more plants

Went to town to do last minute grocery shopping and came back and put it away.. Changed clothes and Herbie and I went in the back barn and got the garden tractor out, got my gardening tools and then went and filled cart up with bag of mulch and off we went to the front of the house and finished up the other side of the front garden... It looks really nice. Dan made some steaks on the grill and corn on the cob for dinner. After dinner he went out and put some water in the trailer and did a few other things..
What a week...... I think that I am ready for a vacation...

Tomorrow starts another week......Have a good week.....

May 21st to May 27th 2012 Memorial Day Weekend

May 21st    Monday
Nice day today,   did laundry and cleaning house, My friend Mary is came by in the late afternoon for a visit.. After the rain we had on Sunday, we woke and seen how much the grass had grown, so Dan went and changed the blades on the mower and began to cut grass.  It took him the bigger part of the afternoon..  We had to leave to go to Marquette as we had an appointment to be at, and when we were done, we were hungry and exhausted.   Went to Applebee's for dinner and then to the grocery store to pick up some food.  Our cupboards were getting pretty bare.  Got home just before dark and put groceries away and called it an day...  Lights Out Early!!

May 22nd    Tuesday
It was suppose to be another nice day, so Dan and I were up early this morning and we went out and stained our front porch.. What a job,  it took us all day. Stopped at noon for lunch and then back at it and got the job done and it looks really nice... I filled the hummingbird feeders and then came in and called it a day..

Porch is stained and so are the whiskey barrels that were along side of the steps... It was nice and warm out and everything dried fast..

Grilled Pork Chops and Garlic Butter Rice for dinner... Then sit on porch and listen to the waterfall and wait for a deer or ???

May 23rd   Wednesday   --- Lunch today with friends in Marquette at Elizabeth's Chop House..      ---  then back to town tonight for a sleep study..  Now that ought to be fun...
This morning was nice and sunny and warm.. What a great day to have fun with friends.  This will be the 1st time that I have been at Elizabeth's Chop House. It is in the old section of Marquette on the main drag... Black and White decor, the food is very gourmet and very very tasty.  It is a bit pricey, but it is something that one don't go to every day.... I had whitefish which was very good, along with it came a coleslaw that was made with Napa Cabbage and with a delicious dressing.  The Veggie was spinach which also was very tasty.  I also had diced broasted like potatoes....  No room for dessert, but look what they offered....

While I was gone Dan had some chores that he had to do.
Dan had installed air lifts on the truck. He did the left side, (which was the hardest side) he worked all day on that.
I made him some dinner and later Ron and Eileen brought Molly down to play with Herbie.    I had to sneak out later as I had a appointment at the hospital for a Sleep Study, for sleep apnea..  Had to have this test re-done so medicare and supplement knows that I am on a machine..  We paid for the 1st machine ourselves and to get replacement parts there is no record of me having a machine paid by insurance. Go figure.  So off I went and got all wired up...   Good Night..
May 24th     Thursday  --  Annual Plant Sale at Glenn's Supermarket
Woke up about 6:45 am and the Sleep study tech was in and started to take wires off of me. I showered and got dressed and filled out a questionnaire and received a breakfast voucher from the hospital and out the door I went... Starting today was the annual plant sale at a local grocery store...  Dan went to the doctor this morning.. and I stopped at McDonald's for a coffee and breakfast sandwich and off I went.  Oh there were so many people there along with plants all over the parking lot I got some hanging baskets and flats of plants and off home I went.  On the way I knew I had alot of work ahead of me.
I unloaded my buys and changed my clothes and headed out to do some weeding and planning where I was going to plant all this.  Dan got home early in the afternoon, we had a sandwich and he went and finished up putting the air lifts on his truck and I started planting.......
The time sure flies by when I am out there working in the yard...  After a few hours I called it quits and said tomorrow is another day...  Started dinner and did a few things around the house.  Time to call it QUITS....

May 25th    Friday  --     Grooming Day for Herbie and Molly
Today was a very busy day for Dan and I. Up early and got ready to start our day.  My friend Eileen brought her Molly over as she was going to go along with Herbie to get groomed. That was the first stop in Escanaba.  While they were there we went to Menards Home Center to pick up a few things and I ended up buying some more plants.  Then off to the bread store to stock up on breads and muffins. Time for lunch and off to Subway we went for a sandwich.  Then to the grocery store.  We were all done, so we drove down to Lake Michigan and sat there and watched the boats. Shortly after we got a call saying that Herbie and Molly were finished. So we went and picked them and went homeward bound.  Once we got there, they ran around and played for a few minutes and when they got in the house, Herbie went on the couch and Molly on chair and they crashed.     Later Ron and Eileen and us went out for our Friday dinner and then when we got back, we crashed.  What a busy day...

May 26th    Saturday
Nice morning, got up and out early and planted some flowers in barrels and then put some mulch down..  Put down 8 yards of red mulch in the front garden by Kitchen window..  Dan just likes the curb appeal it gives.   Had to quit early and shower and get dressed to go to a funeral of a Garden Club Member.    While I was gone Dan went and cut up a big tree that got blown down during a wind storm earlier in the week and then dug the stump out.. This was done after he replaced 3 hydraulic hoses on the tractor..

After the funeral I stopped at a Greenhouse that I have never been to and bought a beautiful hanging basket of wave petunias..I have always wanted one.  Now it would be nice if I could preserve one of my hanging baskets that I had bought and take it with me to Texas..   I came home and planted some more in the garden by the pole building and mulched that.  I had to take Herbie for his tractor ride before I quit for the day.    I still have a few more garden's to clean up and then I should be ready for the Garden Walk in July..

This garden was tore apart and is going to be re-built.

Made country ribs for dinner and then just relaxed for the rest of the evening...

May 27th    Sunday
Woke up to rain and thunder this morning.  Well first thing I thought of is that is good I don't have to sprinkle flowers today..  Suppose to rain all day and be in the 70's...  Good day to watch NASCAR.

Eileen  and Ron stopped by this morning for coffee and they brought us a Sunday paper.

Went in the 5th wheel and got things ready for our trip..

We did a few more things outside and later Ron and Eileen came on down for dinner..  Grilled Chicken, corn on the cob, Cheesy potatoes and brownie and ice cream for dessert..  Nice day with good friends..

Another week is gone ~~  Next week is getting ready to leave for Gillette, Wyoming..
