Sept 30th to October 31st 2013

Sept 30th... Last day of Sept.  We woke up this morning and decided that will go to Marquette this morning for some supplies so Dan can fabricate a mount for our Direct TV that will be mounted on on the rear of our coach. It was such a nice day and the ride was awesome with the leaves starting to turn.

I also decided that I needed to take some of my items out to the coach.  I promised that I will have all my stuff in the coach before we leave.  Going through cupboards and taking out items that I wanted.

Tuesday Oct 1st, I had to take Mr. Herbie to vet today for his yearly checkup and shots..  He was so excited to go with me.   Everything was good, and he gained another pound..  Eileen went with me and we went into Marquette and did a bit of shopping.  The weather was cool enough that I could leave Herbie in the car.

Dan and I both had Dr. appointments before we leave. We both have new Doctors as the one that we had for the past 12 years had to leave his practice due to medical issues.

We went to Manistique for dinner and celebrated Dan's birthday early and also did some gambling..  I walked out money ahead and so did Dan.. It don't happen that often, but when it does we are happy.

On Tuesday the 8th of October I went with girlfriends on the annual overnite at The Chamberlains Inn.  I think that we have been going there for approx 8 years.  This year there was 28 for lunch and 18 staying overnite.  I had a wonderful massage.  We had a great time as always.

When we left to go home I decided I was going to take the back roads back home.  When we had the homes on the lake, I would always go to Manistique thru the woods.  Now, it has been about 15+ years since I last went that way, and I did it.. I came across a downed tree in the forest, and seeing that it is a federal forest and it was shut down, no one was available to remove the tree... So I had to take a different route.

Then on the 10th of October I had my annual Venison dinner with friends. There was 7 of us and I had a venison roast cooked my special way, a pork roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots with orange sauce, cranberry and orange relish, green beans, hot rolls. Eileen brought homemade apple slices and I had maple ice cream.. Everybody walked away full and left overs went home with some.

The leaves are falling and Dan has been out mulching them..They are so pretty.  We have alot of golds this year, but in different areas are alot of reds.

Saturday Oct 12th we had 51 degrees in the morning and the afternoon was so nice, Dan went out to mulch and later the sky opened up and it rained and thundered..

Monday Oct 14th,

Still more leaves have fallen and Dan is out mulching them.   I am having the ladies from the Garden Club over for dinner for the last meeting of the year.  I made a huge roaster of Beef Stew, and others brought something to share.  I had 13 ladies, a couple had canceled.  Before dinner we had a short meeting discussing what plans are for 2014. One of our members volunteer at Glacier National Park every summer and she had just gotten home in time for the dinner, She has been doing this for a number of years, and she drives out there and back by herself. In her spare time she hikes in the mountains.  What a gal.

Tuesday  Oct 15th

My brother, wife and furry child from Waupaca Wisconsin came for a visit,  First time he has been here.  When he retired he moved to Cookeville Tennessee and after 10 years they decided that they wanted to spend more time with their grandchildren so they moved back.  We had such a nice visit and we really enjoyed them.  Hopefully we have talked enough about our Heartland RV experience that they will decide to get one and travel with us on some of our journeys.

Dan made his famous ribs for them, and they were so good we had them for lunch the next day...

Thursday Oct 17th
Today was Herbie's day out.   He had to go to the groomer for his bath and hair cut. Getting pretty for when he gets to Texas.  He loves warm weather and his hair was a bit too long.  Molly went with him for her grooming also.  While they were at the groomers, Eileen and I went out for lunch at The Jade Garden in Escanaba and then we did some grocery shopping.  We enjoyed our day out.

Friday and Saturday was rainy and cold and more leaves had fallen.. I spent time making sure that I had everything together and in the trailer.  Our refrigerator and cupboards are pretty bare and our Key Largo is pretty full..

Monday Oct 21st.

Cold this morning and all packed and waiting heading to L'Anse Michigan in the Keewanna for The Witches Ball.  Our friend Kathy Erickson is  hosting it at The Best Western Lakeside. There were 24 girlfriends dressed as some sort of witch..  We had a nice dinner and games and prizes for the Best dressed, most original, and most glitzy witch.  After the event some came to Kathy's home to go swimming.  Kathy has a indoor pool in her home and she most graciously shares her home with her friends and family.

A pregnant witch  (LOL)

Eileen, Linda and myself headed home Tuesday (150 miles) and we ran into snow sleet and some rain.  That is the first time I had seen this in many years as we go south.

When I arrived home, Dan had the home all drained and had everything ready to move out to the trailer overnite.  We sat and watched TV in our house, and around 10 pm  we closed up the house.

Weds Oct 23rd..
Up at 5 AM and left home at 6:30 AM..  Snow and Ice on truck and coach.. The 1st time our Truck has ever been on snow.  We arrived at the Mackinaw Bridge around 9 AM and we did run across rain and sleet and some snow again.
Arrived at Elkhart Campground and our friends Ralph and Barb were there waiting for us to arrive.  It was sure nice to have them come and camp for a couple of days with us and we could catch up over dinner at El Maguey's Mexican and then breakfast at the Golden Egg.  After breakfast Thursday we went to Shipshewanna to the Bulk food store and  then to Yoders for cheese and sausage.  We got back in the afternoon and we let the dogs out and relaxed before we went out for dinner at Chubby Trout..

Friday Oct 25th.
We got up early as we wanted to leave early for Effingham.. Well, after watching the weather report and the temps were low and it was cold, the roads were icy, so we decided to wait for awhile so the roads will melt a bit.  We left around 10 AM said our good byes and headed down Hwy 31 thru the countryside.  We arrived at Camp Lakewood around 4 PM, Dan set up which by the way he really enjoys the self levelers on the new rig..  I took Mr. Herbie for a sniff run while Dan did that.  That boy just loves to sniff sniff... and squirt.. The park was filled up, the new owners are very nice and helpful.  They have alots of trees around which are Hickory, Black Walnut and Acorn.. nuts were on ground all over.  I should of picked up some of the nuts.

Saturday Oct 26th

We left Effingham early this morning and took a slow ride to Sikeston, MO.  It was a short ride, and we arrived around 12:30 PM...
Got set up and took Herbie for his sniff run.. Dan and I took a drive to Walmart to get a few things and then came home and relaxed, had coffee  and then I put one of the huge pasties I made in the oven and made some green beans for dinner.
In the morning we will leave for Tunica, MS for 2 nights..

October 27th & 28th   Sunday and Monday..
Arrived in Tunica at Harrah's Mid-South RV park..  We like that one as it has nice big sites and grass. Lights at end of each site, and it has security. $15.00 a night with full hook-ups and wifi and cable is not a bad rate.
We got all set up and I took Herbie for a walk so he can do his sniffy's.. Met the owners of a Big Horn at the end of our row and had a nice visit with them.
Dan wanted to take a trip over to a casino, so we decided to go to Sam's Town, We planned on going to eat at Smokey Joe's, but it closed down..  They had a buffet, but I could not see spending what they wanted, when I could not eat that much..  One thing I have noticed is that the Buffets at Casino's have gone way up.. anywhere from $25.00 to $27.00 per person..   I played a few machines and then I had enough and went and sat out and did my Sudoku..
Monday we hung out and then went into Tunica and picked up a few groceries. Went to another casino and Dan played a few machines and I did also.. but then I went and sat with my trusty  Sudoku...  Got back made some dinner and then got things organized to leave in the morning..

October 29th Tuesday
Up early and headed to Texrkana.. It was a cool Morning, and the roads were not to bad. We were headed to Sunrise RV, right off the interstate.. it is a great overnite spot, all gravel, full hook-ups.  Had dinner and then cleaned up and just relaxed after a long drive.

October 30th  Weds...
We left Sunrise RV Texrkana, Arkansas at 7:30 am.  The weather reports do not look good at all.  To make a long story short Dan drove about 450 miles and it was raining off and on.. Dark skies and grey clouds all the way... Our plans were that we were going to stop in Goodrich, but after we got closer to Livingston, Dan decided that we would just head for Victoria.  When we got to Livingston, the rain was coming down quite hard off and on and the closer we got to Houston it was raining and raining very hard.  Good thing we had good wipers on the truck. Trucks were passing us which made it even worse as we had a hard time watching for the white lines between lanes..  There was no place we could stop and pull over so Dan was just a cool trooper and kept on going... If I would of been driving I would of been crying and a mess.....  (LOL)  We arrived at Gateway to the Gulf in Victoria and signed in for 2 nights...It was so hot and humid when I got out of the truck.. I was not use to it.  Made some dinner and Dan took Mr. Herbie for his walk and then we both settled in and I was watching "DUCK DYNASTY"  Then off to bed... what a day...
October 31st  Thursday.....
We are at Gateway to Gulf, Just hung out most of the day..We watched the news and the weather about the storms that hit Austin area and all the flooding..  Unbelievable what is happening with the weather.    We had a huge downpour around noon and afterwards Dan and I took off and went to pick up a few groceries.  Came on back and just relaxing in our recliners.  Herbie doesn't like being inside and if there is a bit of sun shining in, he lays down there for awhile.   We are having beef stew that I had frozen for dinner tonight, still trying to empty out our freezer...
Tomorrow we are going to be up early and hit the road so we can get set up and organized for the winter.
